Just a quick update to let you all know that the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) has taken up residence on our upstairs balcony outside the master bedroom. You don’t believe me? Here’s some photographic evidence:
What this really is (of course it’s the FSM, there’s no such thing, just ask any Pastafarian!) is a hacked-together base antenna adaptation of a Yaesu mobile ATAS-120 screwdriver antenna. I’m not mounting my radio in my car, and my permanent HF (high frequency – pretty much everything from 6 meters on down to 160 meters, or 50MHz down to 1.8MHz) antenna isn’t here yet. This is far from perfect, but it gets me on the air at least a little bit until the real antenna arrives.
Apparently there is a long and glorious tradition of hacking together mobile antennas for temporary base use.
